Christmas in Prague is a truly magical experience. The city is adorned with twinkling lights and festive decorations, and the streets are filled with the sounds of carolers and the aroma of delicious holiday treats.

One of the most iconic sights during Christmas in Prague is the Old Town Square, where the city’s famous Christmas market is held. The market is a true feast for the senses, with vendors selling everything from traditional Czech Christmas cookies and gingerbread to handmade crafts and gifts. Visitors can also enjoy a cup of warm mulled wine or a bowl of traditional Czech Christmas soup, while listening to live music and taking in the beautiful surroundings.

Christmas markets in Prague (Vánoční trh) are a key ingredient of the festive magic in the Czech Republic, and the they are the most impressive in the country also in Europe! They light up the city, bringing locals and tourists together in a true ‘winter wonderland’ setting.

What Are the Local & Popular Foods in Prague for Christmas

There is all manner of local food and drink to sample, much of it prepared at the stalls in front of you.

Large hams roasted on a spit (Pražská Šunka); terribly unhealthy but wonderfully tasty barbequed sausages (klobása); Hungarian flatbread topped with garlic, cheese and ketchup (langoš); pancakes (palačinky); and a variety of sweets and cakes, such as spicy gingerbread and a hot sugar coated pastry (trdelník).
