2026Rainy Day Photoshoot in Prague: Why Bad Weather Makes Great Photos
The message arrives a day before almost every session at some point in my calendar: “It says rain tomorrow… should we cancel?” My honest answer, refined over many soggy and spectacular sessions: usually not. Some of my favorite photographs of Prague exist because of rain, not despite it. Here’s why — and exactly how we make a wet day work.

What rain gives you
- Wet cobblestones become mirrors. Prague’s lanes glow with reflected lamplight and color — the streets literally double the light.
- The crowds vanish. A drizzly morning empties the Charles Bridge nearly as well as a 5 AM alarm.
- Soft, even light. Clouds are nature’s diffuser; skin tones look gentle and no one squints.
- Real moments. Sharing an umbrella forces you close together. Laughing through a downpour photographs better than posing in sunshine.
The umbrella is a prop, not a problem
I keep clear “bubble” umbrellas in my bag for exactly these days — they keep faces visible and add a romantic, filmic shape to portraits. A couple under one umbrella on a glistening lane in Lesser Town is a photograph people frame.

Covered locations that keep us shooting
Prague is generous with shelter, and a rainy-day route strings it together: the arcades of the Old Town Square, the vaulted passage under the Charles Bridge tower, the covered Lucerna and Světozor passages with their neon and marble, café windows with steamed glass, and the cloisters near the castle. We move between them, shooting in the rain when it’s light and under cover when it pours.
Practical notes
- Bring a second pair of shoes and socks — happiness insurance.
- A trench coat or wool coat photographs far better than a plastic rain jacket.
- Umbrellas: solid dark or clear work; rainbow souvenir umbrellas steal the show.
- True storms are different — for lightning or gales we simply reschedule, free.
My weather policy
I never charge for weather rescheduling, and we decide together the evening before. But if you can find a little courage, take the rainy slot — you’ll get a moodier, more intimate, more original set of photos than the sunny-day version. The FAQ covers rescheduling details, and prices are here. Bring the weather you get — we’ll make it beautiful.
